Production Design Academy launched with 5 day feeder programme

Nerve Belfast organised a 5 day feeder programme for the Production Design Academy in August at Havelock House for a group of fourteen 16-19 year olds. Use of the former UTV studios and back stage changing rooms enabled us to create a stimulating industry environment where creativity could flourish.

Specialising in either make-up or costume design the young people were given the challenge of recreating a painting by the Russian artist Olga Suvorova. Costume designers Enda Kenny and Lisa McLoughlan mentored the group of enthusiastic young people eager to learn about the roles and skills in a costume department. Throughout the week they learnt skills such as cutting, tailoring, fitting and sewing as well as paint effects for fabric and prop construction.

Theatrical and special effects make-up artist Connie McGrath mentored the group of young people in the make-up team. Throughout the week they gained skills in a variety of make-up techniques. They also worked on prop design and hair.

The recreation of the painting was stunning and feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive.

Applications for all the NI Screen Academies will be released in the next few weeks. Follow the link below to register your interest!
