Autumn CPD Twilights 2016

Our free teacher twilight courses are now available for registration!


 All our CPD courses are two-session courses and will be located at Nerve Belfast Creative Learning Centre, Ulidia Resource Centre, Belfast.  Courses require a commitment to attend both sessions of the course booked.
Primary courses run from 15.00-17.30 and Post-Primary courses from 15.30-17.30.
 Please do not double book as some courses will be running on the same dates.

As always all courses are free to those who work in a school environment and are offered on a first come first served basis. Please book early as they tend to fill up within 1-2 days.

If the course you want is booked up then please don’t hesitate to add your name to our waiting list, as we do offer places to teachers as soon as they become available.

MIA Sound (Post Primary)

In this two session course learn how to master the art of Sound Design as we tackle the GCSE MIA Sound Task. Using Garageband on the Mac we will be recording and editing our own foley sounds as well as using royalty free sound effects and music to enhance our movie sound track.

WAU Foundation (Primary)

This two session course will allow you to explore ways in which the creative use of technology can be embedded into schemes of work at Foundation level. Discover how iPad apps such as Puppet Pals, DoodleCast, My Story and Drawing with Carl have been used successfully in the classroom to support the connected teaching and learning of WAU topics.

WAU KS1 (Primary)

The purpose of this two session course is to show how the creative use of technology can assist your pupils to explore, find and share answers to some of these big questions. Practical, hands-on activities covering topics such as The Weather, The Water Cycle, Plants, Life Cycles and the Earth will allow you to get to grips with the technology and better understand its’ potential to aid learning experiences and outcomes at Key Stage One.

iPad apps covered will include: Seesaw, PhotoSpeak, Pic Collage, Comic Life, My Story, Book Creator, Do Ink Green Screen, as well as a number of other supportive apps.

WAU KS2 –  Earth Science (Primary)

This two session course will focus on the practical teaching of a new resource available through CCEA and C2k and supported and developed by Earth Science Ireland through its educational committee Earth Science Outreach.

You will be given an overview of the resource, explore the creative use of iPads in the classroom and have a go at some hands-on enquiry activities that can be used to support and enhance the teaching and learning of WAU at Key Stage Two.

Getting Started with Micro:bits (Primary & Post-Primary)

Want to know what a micro:bit is? Need help getting started with your micro:bit?

This two session course will introduce you to the basics of the pocket-sized computer, help you understand how to code it, and inspire ideas on how it could be used in the classroom. Please bring along your micro:bit if you have one.

Electronics and Robots (Primary)

This two session course aims to help teachers introduce simple concepts of electronics & robotics into the primary classroom. We will be looking at basic circuits, static electricity, renewable energy sources, robotics, engineering and magnets with craft and group activities, iPad apps, lego robots, k’nex kits, dash robots, makey makeys, and lots more. This is aimed at a basic level so no prior knowledge of any of these areas is required, this is a fun 2 day course with lots of practical activities and hands on experience – plus you’ll get to take home your very own led cork insect buddy!

Coding on iPads (Primary)

This two session course will introduce you to the concepts of coding and give you the opportunity to apply these practically. You will gain an understanding of ways in which coding on the iPad can be used across the key stages to support teaching and learning. Some of the apps that we will be focusing on are The Foos and Kodable for Foundation level, Bee-Bot and Scratch Jr for KS1, and Kids’n’Code and Hopscotch for KS2. We will also look at the Osmo Coding Game Kit which uses hands-on physical blocks to control a character on the iPad.

Logic X (Post Primary)

In this two session course designed for Music teachers learn how to master music sequencing using Logic Pro X on the Mac. This course will involve; setting up MIDI/audio tracks, editing MIDI/audio, using the piano roll, adding effects, mixing, panning and exporting.

Final Cut Pro X and Special Effects (Post-Primary)

Take your editing further and learn to create spectacular special effects using different techniques in Final Cut Pro X . Experiment and explore green screen, compositing, colour grading, colour correction and keyframe animation to enhance your films.

Adobe Premiere is a powerful editing tool, widely-used throughout the television and film industry. On this introductory two session course, you will learn how to use Adobe Premiere to assemble your video and sound clips – that can be captured on any device – to create digital films for professional-quality output.

Introduction to Photoshop (Post-Primary)

This two session course will introduce you to the basics of Photoshop including layers, blending modes, filters, selection tools, custom brushes and text tools. In the second session you will put together what you have learnt to create a poster.
