Young Filmmakers Attention Please! 

Whether you are a MIA, Media Studies or Drama student. 

We are looking for committed, talented, young people between the age of 16 and 19 to be a part of the BFI Film Academy 2016/17 Network Programme delivered by Nerve Belfast Creative Learning Centre.

As a BFI Film Academy participant you will work with filmmakers and take part in a series of masterclasses and workshops with industry professionals, hear their top tips on how to get into and succeed in the film industry, get practice in developing and pitching your ideas and produce your own work.  You’ll discuss films from around the world and learn more about distribution, film-festivals and programming. By the end of the course you will have produced a short film.

Once you have completed the Network course, you will become part the growing BFI Film Academy alumni network with access to events such as BAFTA career talks.  You will also have the opportunity to complete an NCFE Award qualification on the course.

Course dates:   

Registration day – Wednesday 5th October 4:00 – 5:30pm

Course Commences – Saturday 8th October 2016

Saturdays – 8th October 2016 – 25th February 2016 (excludes 5th November, 17th and 24th December and 31st January) 

Location Shoots – February term break 2016

Depending on film group you will be required to be on set for one full weekend on the dates below, film groups will be agreed upon commencement of the course.   

Saturday 28th January and Sunday 29th January 

Saturday 4th February and Sunday 5th February

Saturday 11th February and Sunday 12th February  

You will need to make sure that you can attend all these dates before signing up.

Additional days may occur after school hours, during term breaks or Sundays to meet the deadlines of the course.  You will need to make your own transport arrangements to and from the centre.  

Location: Nerve Belfast Creative Learning Centre / Ulidia Resource Centre / Somerset Street / Ormeau Road / Belfast BT7 2GS

Accreditation: You will work towards gaining a NCFE certificate, a recognised qualification amongst employers, universities and colleges. To achieve this during the Film Academy, you’ll be required to plan your work and create and maintain your own portfolio and this may require some work outside of course hours. 

Costs: The cost to participate in the BFI Film Academy delivered by Nerve Belfast is £25, refundable in full upon successful completion of the course.

Bursaries will also be made available if you require assistance with travel, child care or other costs.

Eligibility: You need to be between the ages of 16 and 19 on the first day of the Academy programme. You must be a UK resident and able to commit to the programme for its duration.

We are looking for enthusiasm, determination, a genuine interest in film and a willingness to learn.
