MIA TEACHER TRAINING WEEK 2015

Welcome to our annual MIA teacher training week.
This year we feature our GCE Theory Day with INTO Film Introduction courses which will take you on a journey through film history covering essential Moving Image AS and A2 topics. And for teachers wishing to delve into special effects why not come along to our Post-Production Effects for Free course and give your movies that special FX magic with some 3D compositing.
All Courses will be held in Nerve Belfast Creative Learning Centre at the Ulidia Resource Centre.
As always all courses are free and offered on a first come first served basis, please book early as they tend to fill up within 1-2 days.
Each course lasts from 9.30 – 3.30.
MONDAY JUNE 15th (9.30 – 3.30)
This course will introduce both new and existing teachers to genre, film language and everything else you need to know at GCSE level. The session will also demonstrate a range of different illustrative examples that can be used in the classroom and will provide some ideas for practical follow-on exercises, as well as help and advice in planning your scheme of work.
Setting up for good sound recording is the easiest thing to forget and the hardest thing to fix in post-production. This course will help you record better quality sound. Participants will use built-in mic’s, external mic’s boom poles and low budget tricks to improve sound. The afternoon will focus on post-production techniques, editing sound, creating and adding sounds effects to enhance films.
TUESDAY JUNE 16th (9.30 – 3.30)
Marty is back! With his definitive guide to theory for Moving Image AS Marty will take you on a journey through film history covering essential AS topics such as Classical Hollywood Style and German Expressionism.
Learn the basics of Final Cut X and transform your editing abilities with advice and guidance from our Final Cut experts.
Please note that this is an introductory course and teachers who have existing knowledge of Final Cut should sign up for the advanced course on Wednesday.
WEDNESDAY JUNE 17th (9.30 – 3.30)
Special FX for film using free software.
This course will cover the free film editing capabilities within Blender 3D to layer and blend video, images and sound and add that Special FX magic with some 3D compositing.
This course will take you through the essentials of stop-motion theory and techniques and introduce you to a number of methods that can be used to create stop-motion animations. This course would be particularly useful for those offering the new revised GCSE specification.
Learn some advanced tips and tricks using Final Cut X and transform your editing abilities with advice and guidance from our Final Cut experts.
Please note that this is an advanced course and teachers will be expected to have a basic working knowledge of editing and Final Cut in order to take part.
THURSDAY JUNE 18th (9.30 – 3.30)
Gain an overview of the requirements for MIA AS & A2 coursework and learn skills to create teaching resources such as video clips and Keynote presentations. This course will also cover some ideas for practical follow-on exercises, as well as help and advice in planning your scheme of work and some other useful ideas and resources.

FRIDAY JUNE 19th (9.30 – 3.30)
After effects is to motion graphics and compositing what Photoshop is to design work. This course will be an introduction to AE and some of the cool effects you can achieve in 2D & 3D as well as compositing effects using different media.
